Q-Linux is a division of IT Group, Inc.

History
Q-Linux was established in the year 2000—at a time when Linux and the concept of open source was just beginning to gain the attention of businessmen and technologists in the Philippines. Back then the founders of Q-Linux—many of whom were established industrialists and entrepreneurs, IT industry veterans and enthusiasts—foresaw the day when Linux and Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) would become a potent force for change in Philippine business, education and governance. They saw that Linux and FOSS could dramatically lower the costs and barriers to technology choice for not only organizations but individuals as well. They saw that Linux and FOSS could enhance competitiveness and innovation through its philosophy of open sharing of ideas in the form of software source code. They saw that if supported, Linux and FOSS could become one of the country's key enablers for local capacity development and competitiveness.

With a vision of becoming a beacon for Free and Open Source in the Philippines, this group eventually formed Q-Linux Solutions, Inc. Its mandate was to provide services, training and professional consulting on FOSS—specifically its most prominent product which is Linux—a first in the Philippines for this nascent technology. Well-known Filipino Linux professionals were invited to join the core team of this training and consulting group.

In 2003, the Q-Labs Linux Proficiency Course was developed to standardize the delivery of the company's training courseware on Linux. Since then, the Q-Labs Linux Proficiency Course has become the baseline reference for the Philippines training centers when it comes to Linux training.

Through the years, Q-Linux has become the consulting and training provider of choice for many organizations in the Philippines when it comes to Linux and FOSS technologies. To expand its offerings and to ensure its competitiveness, Q-Linux has also began to partner with international best-of-breed providers of open source solutions and technologies. These partnerships have given Q-Linux a stronger value proposition it can offer organizations whose strategies and agendas feature prominently the use of Open Source.

In 2006, Q-Linux was acquired by IT Group, Inc. to strengthen its position in the emerging field of open source applications, and solutions. IT Group, primarily a systems integration company whose focus is providing growing businesses with IT solutions and services, saw in Q-Linux a strong partner in its vision and strategy. The combination of IT Group’s strong business process expertise and Q-Linux’s strength in technical integration of open source technologies makes the combined organizations a strong contender in meeting the needs of small and midsized businesses looking for cost-effective IT solutions.

Today, Q-Linux continues as a key division of IT Group, and henceforth will be known as Q-Linux Labs—a Division of IT Group. Although the form may be different, the organization's mandate continues to be the same: to be the partner of choice for organizations in the promotion, adoption and use of Free and Open Source Software.
